Paris 11 ATC

I sat down to create something for this week's Theme Thursday challenge, which is Paris, and I ended up with this ATC that is far different from what I initially had in mind.  Sometimes you just have to let your muse take you down a different path.

The base layer is white glossy cardstock colored with alcohol inks and then stamped with a French script.  The top layer is a variety of ArtChix Studio clipart collaged onto a black glossy cardstock.

Mother and Son Gluebook Page

It's always a thrill to find more than one image of the same person when digging through a pile of vintage photos in an antique shop.  So I didn't hesitate to snatch up two picture postcards featuring a young lad in a striped sailor suit, especially when the store owner was selling the photos for just 50 cents apiece.  

I made laser copies of the two photos and cropped them to use on a two-page spread in my vintage gluebook.  I love the relaxed pose of the photo on the left.  I've imagined that the boy's father was killed in a tragic accident at a young age, leaving his mother to raise him on her own.  It's just mother and son, trying to find their way in the world.

Two Gents Gluebook Page

It's been so long since I created a gluebook page, I almost didn't know where to begin!  And I do so want to make a real gluebook, working directly in a Moleskin with as many vintage papers as I can.  So I reviewed the lessons from the Vintage Gluebook course I took with Mary Green last year, looked at the pages I made for class, and finally created this, my first page.

Everything is vintage except the photo.  The map is from a 1930s textbook that belonged to my grandma.  I purchased the 1910 penny postcard at a flea market and the pre-1900 German prayer book at a tag sale.  As you can see, the prayer book is in terrible shape, but that only makes for a more interesting collage.

I Love My Jean Collage

I had some free time last night so I sat down at my craft desk with the desire to create a true mixed-media (i.e., not just paper), collage in my visual journal.  Happily, this piece came together fairly quickly.

The background papers are both vintage.  I found the dried carnation in the big dictionary that I use to press my ATCs.  I have no idea how old it is, but I was lucky to get it adhered before it completely fell apart.  I had to be extra careful applying the gel medium.  My "Jean" was free clipart in a Stampington magazine.
