Robin Post-It Note Holder

During one of our Wacky Wednesday jaunts last fall, I stumbled upon some adorable twig pencils and knew exactly how I would use them.  It's just taken me a while to get back to them.

The pencil is the perfect size for this 3 x 3 inch post-it note holder.  And although there is real lead inside the twig, the pencil is really more for looks than function.  The bird image from Artistic Outpost was colored with Prismacolor pencils.

Thanks for stopping by!

Supplies:
Blue and orange cardstock by Bazzill; whisper white cardstock from Stampin' Up; bird image from Artistic Outpost; black Stazon ink; Prismacolor Premier pencils; odorless mineral spirits; antique linen distress ink; twig pencil; 3x3 Post-it Note pad.

Driving By With Get Well Wishes

I haven't had any time for crafting this week, but fortunately I had this card in my stash when I needed one to send to an uncle who had surgery on Monday.  All I had to do was add the appropriate sentiment inside, and the card was ready to mail.

I created the background with alcohol inks on glossy cardstock using the polished stone technique.  That used to be one of my favorite techniques, but I haven't done it in a while.  I think it might be time to pull out the inks again.  Perhaps after I clear the driveway of the new snow we received yesterday.  Winter is finally here!

Thanks for stopping by.

Supplies:
Black and turquoise cardstocks by Bazzill; glossy white cardstock and very vanilla cardstock from Stampin' Up; Adirondack alcohol inks: stream, terracotta, latte; alcohol blending solution; truck, clock and pen nib stamps by Tim Holtz; splatter stamp from Artistic Outpost; black Stazon ink; walnut stain distress ink; ticket corner punch; mini black brads; pop-dots.

I can't show you what I've been working on this weekend, but I'm feeling sassy so I'll tease you with a little sneak peek.

Thanks for stopping by!
Have a great Monday.

Clean and Simple Sympathy Chapter 2

This post falls into the "couldn't leave well-enough alone"  category.  After reviewing the sympathy card I made yesterday, I decided it needed some additional color, especially on the flower.  Thankfully I had attached the flower with a pop-dot, so I could easily pull it off to tinker with it, without ruining my card.

I used a Cut-n-Dry Pen Nib to outline the flower with some spun sugar distress ink, and then used a water pen to brush some shabby shutters onto the leaves.  I love how the distress inks can look like water colors.

So, what do you think?  Do you prefer this version or the first one?  Be honest, I can take it!

Supplies:
Green and pink cardstock by Bazzill; whisper white cardstock from Stampin' Up; stamps from Stampin' Up; worn lipstick, peeled paint, spun sugar, shabby shutters, and forest moss Distress Ink; Swiss dots Cuttlebug embossing folder; rectangle and scalloped rectangle Nestabilities by Spellbinders; pop-dots.

Clean and Simple Sympathy

It is not easy for me to make a clean and simple card.  But that's what I felt like making today when I sat down to create a sympathy card.  To be honest, I'm tired after shoveling the snow we received yesterday and working extra hours this week, so I didn't feel like tackling a complicated technique or spending time coloring.

So I simply stamped my images with colored inks on white cardstock and chose some coordinating colored cardstock from the scrap bin.  I think this may actually qualify as a "ten minute card" too (something I don't make too often, either!).

Thanks for stopping by!  Have a great weekend.

2012 Art Calendar Challenge - January

I've decided to play along with The Kathryn Wheel's 2012 art journal challenge.  I started with a practice page last month, and now have completed my January calendar.

I'm working in a 9 x 12 inch Strathmore Visual Journal with 140 pound watercolor paper.  I painted the background with acrylic paints (blue, white, brown) and then stenciled a Tim Holtz clock using stormy sky distress ink.  I incorporated some rubber stamping throughout, but the focal points are the clipart images from a Stampington magazine.  All of the daily squares were cut from leftovers in my scrap bin (I'm always looking for ways to reduce that behemoth!)

Here is a close-up of one corner of the calendar, where you can see some of the stenciling and stamping.  Overall I am pleased with this month's calendar, and I had great fun creating it.

Thanks for stopping by!
