Raymond Note Cards

A couple of months ago I made this ATC for my friend Kathy using a 1920 photograph of her father. But before giving it to her, I had some high-quality prints made at a local shop to use on other projects such as these note cards.

I made two different designs using some Basic Grey papers that coordinated beautifully with the colors and design of the ATC. Because the card base is black, I attached a white piece of cardstock inside to write on. In this post, you can read more about how I packaged the cards to present as a gift.

Thanks for popping in!

Supplies:
Black and green cardstock by Bazzill; decorative papers by Basic Grey; ATC print (see original post on June 28, 2010, for the ATC complete supply list).

Kathy's Accordion-Style Card Holder

On several occasions I've made notecards as gifts, but I have been searching for a gift box or holder that I could make to put them in. Recently I found a tutorial on Splitcoast Stampers for an easy A2 card holder box that is perfect for my needs.

I love this Pink Paislee paper but I discovered that it is not quite heavy enough for this project. So I reinforced the bottom, the front panel, and the lid with some additional cardstock inside. I decorated the top with sheer gold ribbon, ivory skeleton leaves, and Prima flowers.

The box is deep enough to hold four notecards and six envelopes (I always include a couple extra). Add a book of Forever postage stamps, and this makes a lovely gift that I am proud to present to a friend.

Thanks for stopping by!

Supplies:
Pink Paislee patterned paper; true thyme cardstock by Stampin' Up; vintage photo distress ink; monogram stamp by Inkadinkado; Versamark ink; gold embossing powder; Martha Stewart border punch; oval and scalloped oval Nestabilities; sheer gold ribbon; ivory skeleton leaves; Prima flowers; antique gold brads; Terrifically Tacky Tape; velcro closure.

I Hate Word Problems ATC

Last week at an estate sale I bought a 1905 arithmetic textbook with over 600 fabulous pages of math exercises, turn-of-the-century graphics, and word problems that, although quaint, made my head spin! I'm sure glad I don't have to do any of them.

I hope you had a great weekend! Thanks for stopping by.

Supplies:
Cardstock ATC base; little boy clipart from Green Paper Packages; Tim Holtz patterned paper (report card, paper clip box); text from 1905 arithmetic textbook; frayed burlap, vintage photo, and walnut stain distress ink; Derwent light charcoal pencil; tortillion; small circle punch; brass snaps.

On the Boardwalk Pocket Card

I created this easy pocket card to hold an ATC that I am sending to someone in trade for a rubber stamp.

I simply covered my card base (final size is 4.5 x 5.5 inches) with some Graphic 45 patterned papers and used circle punches to create the paper embellishment on the front. It was simple, fast, and my artist trading card will be protected enroute to its new owner.

Happy Monday!

Supplies:
Bazzill black and yellow cardstock; Graphic 45 decorative papers (On the Boardwalk series); circle punches; Stampin' Up scalloped circle punch; corner rounder punch.

With Enthusiasm ATC

I'm finally getting back to my art supplies after taking a week off due to my dad having surgery. He had some post-op complications that required not one, not two, but three trips to the ER, so it was a stressful week. I'm happy to report that he is doing better now and is on the mend.

This artist trading card features new clipart from various sources and text from a 1906 arithmetic book. I don't know who the jaunty bicycle rider is, but we suspect he was a friend of my aunt who is deceased. I borrowed a photo album from my cousin last year to scan some old family photos and this photo was among them, but neither my dad nor my cousin recognized him.

I hope you had a wonderful weekend! Thanks for stopping by.

Supplies:
Cardstock ATC base; patterned paper by Tim Holtz; clipart by Tim Holtz, 7 gypsies, and Graphic 45; vintage sheet music; 1906 vintage arithmetic book text; word cut from an old book; black cardstock; white acrylic paint; frayed burlap, walnut stain, and antique linen distress ink.

Idyllic Poppy Inchie

How could I have lived my entire life (until this summer, that is) without ever having seen a live poppy? I guess not too many people in our area grow them. But earlier this summer we visited a friend who had several poppy plants, and they were just gorgeous! The petals were a beautiful shade of red and as delicate as tissue paper. I was enchanted and decided I had to find a poppy rubber stamp to recreate that scene all year long.

Unfortunately, the end of summer means the end of the flowers. Cool autumn days will transition to winter and snow-covered ground. But I can bring back summer in an instant by envisioning bright, happy poppies swaying gently in a warm breeze.

Thanks for stopping by! Have a great week.

Supplies:
Poppy stamp (Inkadinkado); text from an old book (background and the word idyllic); Archival jet black ink; Loew-Cornell soft pastels; antique linen and crushed olive distress inks; gold Stickles.

Mystery and Romance ATC

I created this ATC for a fellow artist who likes my vintage style. She very generously sent some collage items to me, including the vintage German sheet music I used in the background. I hope she likes it!

Wishing you a fabulous weekend.

P is for Poppy #2 ATC

As promised, I made a second version of my poppy ATC due to some perceived spacing issues with the first one. But after making the second one, those issues have kind of disappeared and I actually think I like the first one better. Funny how the mind works.

P is for Poppy #1 ATC

Lesson 7 of Collage Coterie is about adding stamped images to your vintage papers. This is something I've been reluctant to do, because I'm afraid I will "ruin" a perfectly acceptable collage by stamping an image in the wrong place or with an ink color that doesn't work with the piece. But I see many collages that make it to the next level with the addition of stamping, so I need to get over myself and JUST DO IT.

I started this ATC without a real plan and am pretty happy with the result. I love the vintage look of this card, which reminds me of a botanical illustration from the 1800s. Unfortunately, the scan does not do justice to the gold embossed flourishes around the edges, and I think the card has some spacing issues. So tomorrow I'm going to make a second version of this card. Practice makes perfect! (Or at least, makes perfectly lovely.)

Thank you for visiting my blog!

Supplies:
Cardstock ATC base; 1920s vintage poetry book; stamps by Inkadinkado (poppies, letter P, and flourish); black Stazon ink; Loew Cornell soft pastels; Derwent charcoal pencil; antique linen, wild honey, and walnut stain distress ink; Colorbox black pigment ink; Versamark ink; gold embossing powder; Plaid matte acrylic spray sealant; gold Stickles.

Bette Davis Eyes - TMTA

Here is an ATC I made for today's Think Monday-Think ATC challenge: famous people.

Imagine what I thought when I found the lyrics for Kim Carnes' song Bette Davis Eyes on a website called "Oldie Lyrics." That song came out the year I graduated from high school! Does that mean I'm an oldie, too?

Speaking of old... Happy Birthday, Brah!

Supplies:
Georgia Pacific white cardstock; Versamark ink; flourish stamp by Hero Arts; clear embossing powder; barn door distress ink; Bette Davis clipart courtesy of Norma Frances on Flickr; black Dresden trim; computer-generated text.

Altered Ansco Box Camera

I am not a big fan of going to garage sales. If I'm looking for something in particular, it's just a wild goose chase that usually ends in frustration. And if I'm not looking for something in particular, why would I go in the first place? But last spring I spent an afternoon going to garage sales with my mom and not only did we have fun, but we actually found the items we were looking for! I don't think I'm hooked on garage sales yet, but I now understand the appeal a little better (especially since I'm getting hooked on vintage collage!).

One of the items I bought that afternoon was a small box camera. It was only a buck and it was missing its guts, but I thought it was cute and I saw great potential for it as an art piece. This weekend I finally sat down and created a collage for one of its sides, and I'm really happy with how it turned out. I used a variety of old and new papers, and two of the items in the collage have a photography theme (the advertising logo on the left and the Tim Holtz film strip ribbon along the bottom). The fancy cast iron latch at the top was purchased at a garage sale on the same day.

The collage ended up being 3-3/4 inches square, which qualifies this piece for the Theme Thursday challenge: square art.

Thanks for popping in. Have a relaxing Labor Day!

Supplies:

Ansco Shur-Flash camera; vintage German text, Flinch card, and sheet music; Hugo Leman photography studio advertisement courtesy of Digital Collage Sheets on Flickr; Crafty Secrets patterned paper; postmark clipart from ArtChix Studio; gentleman clipart from Alpha Stamps; Tim Holtz film strip ribbon; Tim Holtz Idea-ology clock face and hands; Tim Holtz grungeboard letter "L"; round metal alphabet embellishment; white acrylic paint; brushed corduroy distress ink.

Right on Schedule

How lucky is my brother? His birthday falls on Labor Day this year so not only does he get the day off, but he'll get paid for it!

I decided to make a clean and simple card for him this year, but of course with a masculine theme. The patterned papers are from 7 gypsies; the stamps are Artistic Outpost.

Thanks for stopping by!

Supplies:
Stamps: Artistic Outpost; patterned papers by 7 gypsies; navy blue cardstock by Bazzill; generic white cardstock; stormy sky, wild honey, and barn door distress ink; pop-dots.
