Aunt Dee Wants to Know - Snarky Postcard

Here's another quick piece of mail art that I made using mostly scraps found during my clean-up a couple of nights ago.  I'm planning to send it to some crazy art gal as a surprise.  The question is, which one?  I know so many!

A fellow stamper gifted me this image that I've dubbed Aunt Dee because she reminds me of one of my mom's aunts (and not in a good way).  I just love the expression on her face and I'm thinking she needs her own line of snarky cards.  I computer-generated the text which means the possibilities are endless!

The Fish That Ate Wales - Mail Art Postcard

I've had several pieces of mail art come in, so I better get cracking on sending some out!

This clip-art fish was the perfect size for a postcard.  I adhered him to a vintage map and added the bubbles using watercolor pencils and acrylic paint.  The sea-themed sentiments are from Red Lead Paperworks.

I'm usually not one for puns, but the title of this postcard basically wrote itself thanks to the map I chose at random.  It reminded me of a letter a friend wrote to me from college (many moons ago).  In that letter she told me that she was thinking of studying abroad in "Whales."  She misspelled Wales several times in her letter, and the thought of it still makes me smile.

These two silly cupcake postcards are going to the birthday girls this month.  I used acrylic paints on a collage background, then got really wild and added glitter glue.  These cupcakes are quite shimmery in person.

Sunday Postcard Art - Travel

I learned about Sunday Postcard Art through another blog that I regularly visit. For some time now I have been admiring the artists who participate in this weekly challenge and their beautiful and unique creations. I told myself that one day I was going to get up the nerve to participate.

Well, this week's theme is travel and I have some travel and foreign-themed stamps and ephemera, so I decided to take the plunge. I love collage art but it's not a style that I feel very comfortable with yet. I think I just need more practice (and more supplies--ha!) to achieve the right balance in my pieces. I have a feeling I will end up fiddling with this piece some more because I feel that it's still missing "something."
