Corgi Calendar Cards

Here's a project that has been on my back burner for a while:  creating all-purpose notecards using images from an old wall calendar.  It's another great way to use leftover paper, in this case, cardstock.

You know how the back of a calendar will have small photos of the images for each month, so you can see what the calendar is like when it's still in its wrapping?  Well, the photos on the Corgi calendar I bought for 2012 were the perfect size to put on notecards.  I simply trimmed the photos and mounted them on coordinating cardstock, then adhered them to A2 or A7 card fronts.  Each photo inconspicuously included the name of the person who holds the copyright, so I don't feel guilty about reusing them.

How adorable is this?  It's a card that is sure to brighten anyone's day.

Thanks for stopping by my blog.

Graphic Backgrounds in Black, Red, and Honey - ATCs

Hurray!  I was able to do a little creating last night! I finally got a new craft table and enough items unpacked and reorganized that I can start making things again.  I have really missed being able to do so.

I'm still in the process of cleaning up and cleaning out after the wet basement calamity, and in that vein I spent some time going through paper scraps.  Scraps are the bane of my existence.  I hate to throw away perfectly good scraps, but honestly, there has to be a limit.  I found papers from my early days of stamping and card making, and some of the colors and patterns really made me cringe!  I know I'm never going to use them, so they went directly into the waste basket and I have vowed not to feel guilty.

But I found some scraps that I still like and I made this trio of ATC backgrounds.  The black scraps were already cut on the diagonal from a previous project, so I stayed with clean, straight cuts for a modern, graphic feel.  I love red and black together, but ran out of the red so I added the honey-colored music paper for contrast.

I haven't decided yet what I'm going to do with these backgrounds, but I'm sure I'll get some ideas as I continue to sort through my supplies.  It feels so good to be back into the swing of things!

Have a great day!  Thanks for stopping by.

Young Love '20s Style - ATC

This ATC made in 2010 features my paternal grandparents in 1920, just a few weeks after they were married.  It's one of my early ATCs and still one of my favorites.  All of the elements came together so beautifully.

Have a great day!

Supplies:
Pinecone Press ATC matboard; decorative papers from Cosmo Cricket and The Paper Studio; Bazzill black cardstock; vintage photo distress ink; timber brown Stazon; Making Memories gold leaves; Sticko brand number stickers and mini black rhinestones.

Spring is Here - Oldie but Goodie

Since my craft room is still dismantled because of the flood, I thought I'd repost some of my favorite older projects.  I made this card in March 2010 as a get well card to send to my mom.  Similar to March of that year, we are still awaiting the warmer days of spring here in the Midwest.

Thanks for popping in!

Supplies:
Stamps: Artistic Outpost; Bazzill brown cardstock; Stampin' Up! kraft cardstock; decorative papers by 7 Gypsies; Versamark ink; clear embossing powder; peeled paint and walnut stain distress ink; Archival jet black ink; Stampin' Up! small oval and scalloped oval punch; Karen Foster scrapbooker's floss; old button from my stash; Fiskars border punch; pop-dots.

Out of Commission for a While

Our basement got flooded last weekend, so I won't be making any art for a while.  I didn't lose a lot of supplies:  my collection of vintage books and sheet music mainly, in addition to some paper, a few magazines and art books, and the base of my work surface.  But, whatever didn't get waterlogged had to be packed up quickly and moved out in order to remove the carpeting and start the drying process.  And since the rest of the basement (including my home office), needs to be dealt with also, it will probably be a while before I'm able to set up shop to do any rubber stamping or mixed media work.

I see this time as the perfect opportunity to do some cleaning, reorganizing, and decorating.  And perhaps I can try my hand at painting outdoors, now that spring is on the horizon and my watercolor supplies were safe in another part of house.  So I hope to post occasionally about topics that may be of interest to you.

I hope you're having a great weekend.  Thanks for popping in!

Olive Wrote Home Once a Week - ATC

I've signed up for an ATC swap where we're to use a map in some way.  I've been gathering materials to do a World War I series, but in the meantime I played around with some scraps I had to make this card.

The background is a vintage atlas map and the O/8 card is also vintage.  I had die-cut the letter O out of the middle to use on my Altered Bingo Card Nametag.  The remaining piece made a perfect frame for this photo booth gal that was in a Stampington magazine I received recently.

Thanks for stopping by!  TGIF.

Supplies:
ATC cardstock blank; vintage map and sheet music; vintage Crossword Lexicon playing card; vintage postage stamps; Hero Arts rubber stamps; clipart woman from Stampington and Company; black soot and frayed burlap distress ink; Stazon black ink; Tim Holtz pen nib; charcoal pencil; Pitt black artist pen.
