The text is from a 1935 spelling book. Back in the days when people used handwritten letters of introduction to apply for jobs, correct spelling and grammar could make the difference between being hired and standing in the bread line (it was the height of the Great Depression, after all). It's probably a good thing the authors of this book aren't alive to see the atrocious spelling and grammar being used in today's text messages and tweets.
